RANDY GRSKOVIC: Cut & Paste

“Nature itself has no suggestions of her own.” - Oscar Wilde I’m very excited to be involved in another exhibition that opens today, 2pm at Equinox Gallery. Another chance to show with some of my favorite Canadian Artists about a subject we all hold in high regard.  Artwork by: Robert Adams, Karl Blossfeldt, Vija Celmins, Gathie Falk, Rodney Graham, Randy Grskovic, Geoffrey James, Evan Lee, Robert Longo, Jennifer Rose Sciarrino, Gordon Smith, Darren Waterston, Neil Wedman, Michael Wesik, and Hyung-Min Yoon. - Examining the role of the artist as intermediary between themselves and the natural world. The point of inspiration for the exhibition is the 1928 book of photogravures entitled Urformen der Kunst by Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932). In this series of remarkable photographs, Blossfeldt captured in great detail the intricate designs of the natural world. Using a homemade camera, he photographed flowers, stems, buds, and seed capsules, revealing expressive and extraordinary details and inspiring a revelatory view of the natural world. The exhibition will include all of the images from the first edition of Blossfeldt’s series.The artists in the exhibition each bring their own interpretative view of the natural world.
